We all believe the best qualified person should get the job and that gender, race, or relationships should not be a factor. But our data suggest that, unconsciously, other dimensions weigh heavily upon the final decision, as well. he majority of senior leaders are still men, and the higher up in the organization you go, the greater the disparity becomes. And yet at the same time, women at every level were perceived by their bosses, their colleagues, and their direct reports as superior to their male counterparts on three quarters of the competencies our long years of conducting and analyzing 360-evalutions have shown are critical to superior leadership effectiveness.

Are your daily actions bringing you closer to your goals? If not, do not expect the things in your life you need and want changed, to change. It feels comforting to hear motivational speakers tell you how to achieve the goals to make your life prosperous. It is inspiring to read books and articles on how to overcome the challenges in life to achieve your desired goals. But, the key to achieving any goal is putting feet to your faith. I have read dozens of articles and blogs that preached the importance of goals. I have also read articles and blogs that downplayed the significance of goals. I agreed and disagreed with some of the commentary from both sides. I have concluded from reading about and talking to successful people in different walks of life that setting and achieving goals is an important piece of their success. Their goal process is not a one size fits all, but it is unique to their life’s vision.

Global Warming Climate change” and “global warming” are often used interchangeably but have distinct meanings. Similarly, the terms "weather" and "climate" are sometimes confused, though they refer to events with broadly different spatial- and timescales. Weather refers to atmospheric conditions that occur locally over short periods of time—from minutes to hours or days. Familiar examples include rain, snow, clouds, winds, floods or thunderstorms. Climate, on the other hand, refers to the long-term regional or even global average of temperature, humidity and rainfall patterns over seasons, years or decades.
Business Ethics

The idea that leaders bear ultimate responsibility for the success or failure of their organizations is an old one. Maritime tradition has long held that “the captain goes down with the ship.” And US Harry President Truman’s desk was famously adorned with a plaque that read, “The buck stops here!” Leaders historically have accepted, at least in theory, that they bear responsibility for both the good and the bad. It’s worth pointing out that the responsibility at stake here is not direct causal responsibility. Sometimes leaders make disastrous decisions, but responsibility goes well beyond such cases. The reason the captain goes down with the ship (or, more precisely, is expected to be last off ) is not that the boat’s sinking was necessarily her fault. And the fact that Truman eschewed passing the buck didn’t imply that he thought everything that happened in a very large federal government was literally his fault: he was saying that morally he accepted responsibility...

Walmart recently announced that it would raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products at its stores across the United States, effective July 1. The ethics of sales involves many different issues, including what you sell, who you sell it to, the price you sell it at, and the information you provide in the process. But this Walmart story highlights another key aspect of the topic known casually as ‘the ethics of sales.’ And that’s the fact that the ethics of sales isn’t just about the behavior of sales professionals. Of course, the behavior of sales professionals — from the helpful 19-year-old on the floor at Best Buy, to the person who sold you that shiny new SUV, to the big pharma sales rep visiting physicians’ offices to promote the latest antidepressant — is crucially import...
